The sanctuary is operated by the Panamanian Association for Conservation (APPC), which is actively involved in wildlife conservation efforts in the region. Gamboa Exhibitions also provides access to other ecological exhibits, such as a butterfly garden, an orchid garden, and a frog exhibit.

This destination can be enjoyed on its own or as part of a broader itinerary in Gamboa. A special package is available that includes the Gamboa Aerial Tram and the Gamboa Exhibitions at a reduced price. Please contact us if you are interested in this option.

The sloth sanctuary focuses primarily on sloths, which are native to the area. Visitors can learn about their lifestyles, mating habits, different species, and the threats they face. The sanctuary assists in the recovery of these animals to prepare them for eventual release into the wild. Additionally, other species like anteaters and porcupines may also reside in the sanctuary.

The butterfly garden showcases the diversity of butterflies in Panama, which is known for its abundance of these insects. It features around 200 species of butterflies that are endemic to the region, with visitors likely to see about 20 species during their visit, as the species change over the course of the year.

The orchidarium highlights Panama’s national flower, the Holy Spirit Flower, which is white. When in season, visitors can see this orchid along with other native species, including some that are only a few millimeters in size.

The frog exhibit models the Panamanian jungle environment, providing an ideal space for frogs to thrive and reproduce. Visitors can observe over 30 brightly colored frog species and witness their complete life cycle, including mating, reproduction, and feeding. There may also be opportunities to see males competing for territory.
